Easthampton launches municipal electricity aggregation program

The city of Easthampton, Massachusetts, is launching a municipal aggregation program called Easthampton Community Electricity to provide residents and businesses with more control over electricity costs and renewable energy options. Starting with the October meter read, participants will have access to three distinct supply plans provided by Direct Energy.

The three offerings are categorized by their renewable content: Easthampton Standard will serve as the default plan, Easthampton Plus will offer 100% renewable electricity, and Easthampton Basic will meet the minimum renewable energy requirements of Massachusetts.

Under this voluntary program, Eversource will continue to manage power line maintenance, billing, and outage responses, though only the supply charge on electric bills will be affected. Eligible customers will receive notification in August regarding how to opt in or select a specific plan. Participants may leave the program at any time without incurring fees.
