Eastport, Maine, sees downtown revitalization

Eastport, Maine, is experiencing a revitalization of its historic downtown area. The city, which has a population of fewer than 1,300 residents, features a harborside strip of ornate brick buildings that has seen an increase in shops and restaurants over the last 18 years.

Michael Morse, president of the Eastport Area Chamber of Commerce, noted the area's growing potential. Historically, Eastport served as the country’s second-largest trading port after New York City during the 1800s, prior to its association with the sardine canning industry.
