Easy Fox faces rising AI costs following viral game demo

The small game development studio Easy Fox is facing significant financial strain due to the viral success of its demo, ‘Teach My Little Sister How To Drive’. The driving simulator uses generative AI to power a conversational NPC, requiring players to give verbal instructions to an AI-driven character.

To maintain the experience, the game utilizes multiple AI models, including Google Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Because every interaction consumes paid tokens, the rapid increase in popularity—which saw player numbers grow twentyfold in a single month—has driven daily operational costs to approximately $1,000.

To keep the demo online, the four-person team has been forced to take out a loan. The developers noted that while they want to keep the demo available, the rising costs make its long-term availability uncertain. To prevent future players from facing unexpected fees, the studio plans to incorporate expected AI usage costs into the final game's retail price.
