Eav bus fire sparks maintenance concerns in Italy

An Eav bus operating on line 306 and assigned to the Torre Annunziata depot caught fire yesterday afternoon. While no injuries were reported, the incident has reignited criticism regarding the company's fleet maintenance.

The Orsa Autoferro-TPL union has denounced what it describes as long-standing and unresolved structural issues. The union claims that despite continuous breakdowns, accidents, and fires, the company has failed to implement sufficient corrective measures. They noted that even the introduction of internal certified operators to ensure high-quality repairs has not been enough to stop the frequency of mechanical failures in a relatively recent fleet.

In addition to maintenance concerns, the union highlighted the risks faced by drivers, including sudden fires and aggressive work shifts. They are calling for increased funding through the National Transport Fund, better regional co-financing, and wage increases that reflect the professional risks and responsibilities of local public transport workers.
