eBay study shows second-hand shopping is a global consumer staple
A global research study by eBay indicates that second-hand commerce, or recommerce, is becoming a permanent fixture in consumer habits rather than a niche trend. The report highlights that 70% of consumers view buying second-hand goods as a key strategy for managing household budgets.
Data shows a significant increase in frequency, with 47% of global consumers reporting they purchase second-hand items at least once a month. Furthermore, 76% of respondents have purchased second-hand products within the last year, and 89% intend to maintain or increase their spending in this sector over the coming year. Younger demographics are leading this shift, with 53% of those aged 18 to 29 planning to increase their second-hand purchases.
