eBay to lay off 1,100 employees to refocus on growth sectors
eBay is cutting approximately 9% of its workforce, affecting about 1,100 employees, as part of a restructuring effort to simplify operations. CEO Jamie Iannone communicated the decision via an internal memo, stating that the move is intended to align resources with the company’s most significant growth opportunities.
This marks the second major round of layoffs for the e-commerce platform in 2026, following a reduction of roughly 800 jobs in February. The company aims to shift its focus and investment toward high-value, high-growth segments, including authenticated luxury goods, collectibles, and refurbished products.
Despite the job cuts, eBay’s stock has performed strongly, rising nearly 40% this year, significantly outpacing the S&P 500. The company has also been expanding its presence in the re-commerce market, bolstered by its $1.4 billion acquisition of the fashion resale platform Depop.
