EBEA President proposes new production contract for Greece

Giannis Bratakos, President of the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EBEA), has proposed a ‘new production contract’ for Greece as the country prepares for the post-Recovery and Resilience Facility era.

Speaking at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, Bratakos identified 2026 as a critical transition point. He noted that while the Recovery Fund was vital for driving investments, reforms, and digital and green transformations, the economy must now shift toward its own productive dynamics. As extraordinary European resources diminish, the ability of the economy to mobilize its own capital, create income, and convert innovation into economic value will become paramount.

The EBEA pavilion opening was attended by Development Minister Takis Theodorakakos and Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou. Despite improvements in fiscal metrics and international credibility, Bratakos highlighted ongoing challenges, including the investment and production gap compared to the rest of Europe and high energy costs affecting industrial businesses.
