Ebelin Mitropoulou wins silver in javelin at World U20 Championships

Eighteen‑year‑old Greek javelin thrower Ebelin Mitropoulou captured the silver medal at the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a best jump of 6.44 m, just one centimetre short of her personal record of 6.45 m. The performance gave Greece its first medal in the women's javelin at this competition and the 18th overall medal for the country in the event’s history.

France’s Délicia Diarra took gold with a 6.52 m throw, while a second French athlete, Sunta Niang, earned bronze with 6.34 m. Mitropoulou’s series included a 6.27 m opening jump, a 6.44 m second attempt that put her in the lead, and later attempts of 6.21 m, a foul, 5.99 m and a final 6.09 m. She competes under coach George Pomaski and represents the GS Kifisia club.

The result adds to Greece’s tally of eight silver medals and a total of eighteen medals (three gold, eight silver, seven bronze) earned at World U20 Championships across all disciplines.
