EBEP President reacts to Greek government economic announcements

Vasilis Korkidis, President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEP), has expressed an optimistic outlook regarding recent government announcements made at the International Thessaloniki Fair. He noted that the measures aim to provide 'fiscal oxygen' to the real economy, benefiting the middle class, families, retirees, and various workers by allowing them to participate in the expansion of the Greek economy.

While the announcements include permanent measures to improve liquidity and ease the burden on households, Korkidis pointed out certain gaps. Specifically, the intervention regarding the reduction of corporate tax advances was smaller than expected, and changes to deemed income only affect a portion of self-employed professionals.

Korkidis emphasized that the next step for the Greek economy must be a transition from tax relief to enhancing productive competitiveness. This requires reducing non-wage and energy costs, expanding access to financing, providing stronger investment incentives, and accelerating digital transformation to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
