Eber Aquino addresses Paraguayan football refereeing controversies

Eber Aquino, the Director of Referees for the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), has addressed several recent controversies regarding officiating in the domestic league.

Aquino commented on a complaint filed by player Óscar ‘Chiquito’ Giménez, who alleged he was insulted by referee Derlis López. Aquino noted that such incidents are rare in international refereeing dynamics. He also addressed formal complaints from clubs Guaraní and 2 de Mayo regarding specific officiating decisions, stating that the refereeing department is aware of the issues and that certain matters are strictly for internal technical analysis.

Regarding the use of technology, Aquino explained that the post-match analysis aims to cover major controversial plays, particularly those involving the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). However, he clarified that certain actions, such as the review of yellow cards, cannot be reassessed through the system.
