Ebola recoveries reported at Katwa Treatment Center in Butembo

An nurse and an eight-month-old infant have been discharged as recovered from the Ebola Treatment Center (CTE) in Katwa, located in Butembo, North Kivu province. The nurse, who contracted the virus while working in a healthcare facility, praised the medical staff and urged colleagues to adhere to protective measures.

As of early August 2026, the 17th Ebola epidemic involving the Bundibugyo strain has impacted several regions. In North Kivu, confirmed cases include 208 in the Katwa health zone and 92 in Butembo. Provincially, the outbreak has reached 325 confirmed cases, with Butembo serving as the epicenter.

Health authorities are reporting that the total number of cases across five affected provinces has reached 4,053, with 793 recoveries recorded so far. New health zones in Haut-Uele and Lubero have also reported cases. To combat the spread, construction is underway for new Ebola treatment centers in Musienene, Beni, and Tshopo province.
