Ebonyi State Assembly passes new salary law for local officials

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has passed an amendment to Law No. 004 of 2008, revising the remuneration for public and political office holders at the local government and development centre levels. The bill, introduced via an Executive Bill from Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, was granted accelerated passage by the House.

Under the new Schedule A for executive officials, monthly remuneration includes N450,000 for Local Government Chairmen, N400,000 for Vice Chairmen, N240,000 for Secretaries, N230,000 for Supervisors, and N165,000 for Special Assistants to the Chairman.

Schedule C, covering legislative and development centre officials, sets monthly pay at N300,000 for Legislative Leaders, N277,000 for Development Centre Coordinators, N250,000 for Deputy Leaders, N230,000 for Councillors, and N226,000 for Management Committee Members. The House Leader, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, noted the adjustments were necessary to address current economic realities.
