Ebonyi State Government launches relief efforts following Akaeze floods
The Ebonyi State Government has launched emergency response and relief efforts following severe flooding in Akaeze, within the Ivo Local Government Area, and surrounding communities. The disaster has resulted in the displacement of households and the destruction of farmlands, crops, property, and various livelihoods.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, stated that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is coordinating response measures, including relief and rehabilitation. The state is also engaging with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to secure federal support and complementary interventions.
In addition to humanitarian aid, the government aims to implement measures to restore livelihoods and build community resilience against future environmental emergencies. Omebe cautioned opposition groups against politicizing the disaster for partisan purposes, urging that public discourse remain issue-based and focused on the welfare and dignity of the affected citizens.
