Ebonyi State PDP demands resignation of Governor Nwifuru
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has called for the resignation or apology of Governor Francis Nwifuru following controversial remarks regarding political opposition. The controversy stems from comments made by the Governor during the swearing-in ceremony of local government council chairmen in Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru reportedly warned that if the All Progressives Congress (APC) loses the 2027 elections in certain council areas, local officials could be removed. He stated to the newly inaugurated chairmen, “As a local government chairman, if you like, go and sleep so that another person will take over your house... when we win, we will remove you.”
PDP leaders, including State Chairman Chukwuma Igwe and Publicity Secretary Darlington Peter-Onwe, have condemned these statements as incitement and a threat to democratic pluralism. The party argued that the Governor’s rhetoric could escalate political tension and encourage violence ahead of the 2027 general elections. They further alleged that such remarks violate the constitutional responsibility of the government to protect lives and property, urging security agencies to remain impartial.
