Ebonyi State Police arrest man for impersonating lawyer

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Ugwumba Francis Enyinnaya for allegedly posing as a lawyer and providing legal services without qualifications for more than 11 years. The arrest followed a petition from Chukwu David, who alleged that Enyinnaya collected ₦650,000 in March 2026 under the pretense of facilitating street-naming approvals in the Ohaozara Local Government Area.

During investigations, Enyinnaya reportedly admitted he lacked legal qualifications or a certificate of call to the Nigerian Bar. A search of his residence yielded several items used to support his false identity, including a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal, a lawyer’s wig and robe, and framed photographs of him in legal regalia.

Police also recovered purported Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) certificates from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, along with various legal documents such as Powers of Attorney and Deeds of Conveyance. The suspect has been charged to court.
