Ebonyi State Police rescue abducted Methodist cleric

The Ebonyi State Police Command has rescued Reverend Ede Sunday, a Methodist cleric who was abducted on September 9. According to police spokesperson Superintendent Joshua Ukandu, two armed men accosted the cleric in front of his church in the Ndulo Amofia area of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, forced him from his vehicle, and fled on a motorcycle.

Following a distress call, police operatives pursued the abductors. The suspects abandoned the cleric at St. James Secondary School in Amofia and fled, allowing the police to recover the victim and his vehicle. Reverend Sunday has since been reunited with his family.

In a separate operation in the Kpirikpiri area of Abakaliki, police disrupted a suspected cultist meeting following intelligence received on September 7. During the encounter, suspects fled, leaving behind a bag containing a locally made Beretta pistol loaded with 9mm ammunition and a stolen mobile phone.
