Egypt attracts significant investment in energy, water, and SME sectors

Egypt is seeing a surge in strategic investments across its energy, water, and small-to-medium enterprise (SME) sectors. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed $37.5 million to the Tanmeyah Capital 2 fund, which recently closed at $130 million. This fund aims to support 6 to 8 high-growth Egyptian companies in sectors including healthcare, fintech, logistics, and technology.

In the energy sector, Norwegian company Scatec ASA plans to invest approximately $5 billion in Egypt over the next two years. These investments will focus on renewable energy, energy storage, water desalination, and data centers. Discussions between Egyptian officials and Scatec leadership highlighted the importance of accelerating projects like Energy Valley and wind and solar plants in Shadwan and Dandara.

Regarding water security, Egypt is strengthening bilateral ties with the United Kingdom to implement the Egypt-UK Green Growth Agreement. This partnership focuses on wastewater treatment, desalination, and modern irrigation techniques. Additionally, Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, has called for expanded European financing to support farmers and contractors in modernizing the nation's water infrastructure to ensure food security and climate resilience.
