EBRD and IsDB discuss development projects in Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is looking to expand its investment operations in Turkmenistan. Eric Livny, EBRD Head of Turkmenistan, stated that the bank aims to support private-sector development and infrastructure projects while attracting international capital. Current priorities include strengthening cooperation with the banking sector and advancing project preparation in transport, sustainability, and municipal infrastructure. While public-private partnerships (PPPs) are viewed as a potential tool for sectors like renewable energy and water management, the EBRD is not currently discussing specific PPP projects with Turkmen authorities.

In Kyrgyzstan, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Kyrgyz Ministry of Finance are discussing a healthcare modernization project. The initiative involves the construction and development of three medical facilities with a combined capacity of 850 beds. The proposed project includes the 200-bed Osh Interregional Oncology Center, a 400-bed infectious diseases hospital at Osh City Clinical Hospital, and the 250-bed Naryn Multidisciplinary Hospital. The mission aims to improve medical infrastructure and healthcare access in the Osh and Naryn regions.
