Ebro Delta implements new protections for nesting birds
Les Salines de la Trinitat and the Ebro Delta Natural Park have implemented new measures to protect nesting birds at Punta de la Banya. These actions aim to safeguard one of the delta's most ecologically significant areas.
Key measures include the installation of perimeter fencing at the entrance of the salt pans to prevent predators such as mongooses, foxes, and martens from accessing breeding areas. Additionally, new informative and cautionary signage has been placed along access roads to alert drivers of the presence of birds and vulnerable chicks that may cross the paths during the breeding season.
Protected species include the Slender-billed Avocet, Kentish Plover, Audouin's Gull, and Little Tern, as well as local flamingo colonies. The initiative is part of a commitment by INFOSA and the Fundació Salines Marines to balance salt production activities with the conservation of aquatic and marine habitats.
