EBRO expands Barcelona plant, triples car output with €150 million investment

EBRO has opened a new M1 production line at its EBRO Factory in Barcelona’s Zona Franca. The 696‑metre line with 97 workstations combines human operators and robots, cutting assembly time to about 1 hour 15 minutes per vehicle. The upgrade triples the plant’s capacity to roughly 250 cars a day, or 50 000 units a year, and can handle up to five model variants, currently including the s400 and s700.

The expansion required a €150 million investment, adding more than 200 robots and creating 1 530 direct jobs at the Barcelona site, bringing the company’s total workforce to 2 045. EBRO also prepared the facility for future processes such as welding and painting, slated for testing and full operation by autumn 2026. The plant will later produce the brand’s first 100 % electric model, planned for series production in Barcelona from 2027.

The project marks a major step in EBRO’s strategy to re‑industrialise Spain, strengthen local supply chains and increase its market share in the SUV segment.
