EBU plans Eurovision voting reform to prevent block voting
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is planning a fundamental reform of the Eurovision Song Contest voting system for 2027. According to reports, the new system aims to eliminate block voting and mobilized mass voting by moving to an exclusively online format. Under the proposed rules, viewers would be required to select multiple favorite entries rather than just one, and traditional telephone and SMS voting would be discontinued.
The move follows controversial voting patterns, such as in 2025 when the Israeli government publicly encouraged fans to vote multiple times for their candidate, Yuval Raphael. Although Raphael placed 15th with the jury, she achieved the highest audience vote score of 297 points, ultimately finishing second overall.
In the most recent contest, Bulgaria secured its first Eurovision victory. Singer Dara won with the song 'Bangaranga,' earning 516 points and placing ahead of contestants from Israel and Romania.
