ECAM Charter on Africa introduced in New York to foster new partnership models
At the eighth ECAM Council meeting in New York, held during the 81st UN General Assembly, the ‘ECAM Charter on Africa’ was presented. The charter aims to establish a new international partnership model designed to transform Africa’s potential into productive capacity, innovation, and sustainable development by ensuring African nations have full ownership over their future.
Italian Ambassador to the United States, Marco Peronaci, highlighted Italy’s ‘Mattei Plan’ as a major cooperation initiative covering economic, social, and energy sectors. He emphasized that public-private partnerships are essential to leveraging Africa’s abundant natural resources and the opportunities provided by digitalization and artificial intelligence.
The event brought together various international leaders, including Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. The initiative focuses on addressing global challenges in energy, infrastructure, and global value chains through collaborative investment in technology and skills.
