Ecatepec authorities to regulate electoral propaganda in public spaces

The Ecatepec City Council has unanimously approved measures to protect urban equipment and regulate the placement of political-electoral propaganda in public spaces ahead of the upcoming election process.

During the thirty-first ordinary session of the Cabildo, Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss, along with trustees and councilors, voted to urge candidates and political parties to avoid attaching, fixing, or painting propaganda on public assets such as poles, bridges, trees, traffic signs, and public buildings.

Mayor Cisneros Coss emphasized that the enforcement of these regulations will be impartial. She noted that in previous electoral processes, she personally experienced persecution regarding billboards and wall painting, stating, “It is impossible for me to tolerate the lack of freedom for all political parties.”

The agreement specifies that the administration will not detain individuals for painting walls, nor will it allow threats against those placing banners on private homes or shut down billboards contracted by citizens or political parties.
