Ecatepec increases operational water wells from 54 to 98
The municipality of Ecatepec has increased its operational water wells from 54 to 98, adding approximately 92 million liters of daily supply. Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss reported that the current infrastructure, which serves 1.2 million residents, includes 98 wells, 63 pumping tanks, and 26 pump stations.
To improve distribution, authorities have targeted illegal activity, identifying and removing over 70 high-capacity clandestine connections. In one instance, officials removed 15 kilometers of illegal hoses used to extract and commercialize water, a scheme estimated to generate 300,000 pesos monthly.
Future plans include the activation of the Colosio number one well on October 15 and the drilling of the Ruiz Cortines well on November 3. The director of SAPASE, Francisco Reyes Vázquez, noted that joint investment from federal, state, and municipal governments in water and drainage infrastructure exceeds 1.975 billion pesos. Despite these improvements, officials noted that 52 percent of the 438,000 registered connections are currently in arrears.
