Ecatepec initiates police purge and launches anti-corruption app

Ecatepec, in the State of Mexico, has initiated 510 procedures to remove police officers and officials as part of an anti-corruption strategy led by Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss. This figure represents the highest number of disciplinary actions among municipalities in the state, surpassing Atizapán, Naucalpan, and Tlalnepantla.

Of the police-related actions, 138 officers were separated due to disciplinary causes or institutional control. Specific reasons for dismissal include failing trust evaluations—primarily due to drug use, irregular lifestyles, or personality risks—as well as recurrent absenteeism and fraudulent medical leaves. The administration noted that voluntary resignations have also increased due to heightened internal supervision.

To bolster transparency, the municipality launched the “Ecatepec sin Mordida” application. This digital tool allows citizens to report corruption or abuse of authority anonymously and securely via smartphone or computer, providing a tracking number without exposing personal data. Additionally, the municipal internal control body has imposed 523 sanctions on public servants, including 34 disqualifications.
