Ecatepec launches transportation grants for 5,000 university students

The government of Ecatepec has launched the ‘Universitarios en Movimiento por el Bienestar’ program to support 5,000 students from both public and private universities. Under this initiative, students receive monthly transportation grants of 1,250 pesos to help mitigate the costs of commuting and ensure they can continue their studies.

Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss noted that only 13 percent of residents in Ecatepec reach university level, emphasizing the need to break the inertia of low educational attainment. The program aims to reduce financial barriers, particularly for students who must navigate multiple transit routes or longer, safer paths to reach their campuses. Students have expressed that the support provides financial relief for their families and allows them to focus more effectively on their academic preparation.
