Ecatepec mayor launches Cruzada Violeta 360 to combat family violence
Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss of Ecatepec announced the launch of the Cruzada Violeta 360 strategy, aimed at preventing, orienting and providing legal support to families, schools and public spaces in the municipality. The initiative responds to a spike in domestic‑violence reports, with 532 calls in May 2026 accounting for 74.2% of all emergency calls.
The program includes three main actions: door‑to‑door visits to identify cases, preventive information campaigns in markets, schools and other public venues, and the activation of community networks through neighborhood committees and the Red Violeta mobile app, which features an emergency button. The mayor asked the State of Mexico Justice Prosecutor to cooperate, anticipating an increase in criminal complaints, and highlighted the need for a new Women’s Justice Center to handle the growing workload.
Cisneros emphasized that "family violence is not a private problem, it is a crime," urging women to report abuse and assuring them that the municipal government will support them.
