Ece Defne Uzak publishes research on sleep apnea and dementia

Ece Defne Uzak, a 12th-grade student at Konak Şehit Ömer Halisdemir BİLSEM in Izmir, has published scientific research in the medical journal ‘Current Journal of Medical Research’. Conducted over approximately two years alongside advisor Tolga Yardımcı, the study investigates the potential biological link between sleep apnea and dementia.

The research focused on measuring amyloid beta protein levels using saliva and urine samples. By utilizing these non-invasive methods instead of more difficult clinical procedures, the study aims to provide a more comfortable way to monitor protein levels, potentially aiding in the early assessment of dementia risk.
