Eching Community Garden Creates Wildflower Meadow to Boost Biodiversity

In 2026 the Kleingartenverein Eching e.V. set out to make its premises more insect‑friendly. Members removed a large lawn area in front of the club house, cleared stones and prepared the soil for sowing a wild‑flower meadow. Krista and Mike Garbutt led the effort and oversaw the planting.

The newly established meadow now supplies food and habitat for butterflies, wild bees, moths, birds and many other insects. Unmowed grass helps keep the soil cooler by 10‑15 °C and prevents it from drying out, while the flowers serve as a source of nectar and pollen throughout the season, supporting local biodiversity.
