EchoStar posts Q2 2026 profit surge from $9.7 B non‑cash deconsolidation gain
EchoStar reported second‑quarter 2026 revenue of $3.58 billion, down from $3.72 billion a year earlier, as the satellite‑TV and broadband provider saw declines across its pay‑TV, wireless and broadband segments. Net income jumped to $8.46 billion, driven primarily by a $9.73 billion non‑cash gain from deconsolidating its Hughes Network subsidiary, which had recently declared bankruptcy. Excluding that adjustment, underlying profit would have been about $49.46 million and diluted earnings per share $24.12, compared with a loss of $1.06 per share in the prior year.
Subscriber counts fell in the quarter: pay‑TV subscribers decreased by roughly 241,000 to 6.39 million (including 4.68 million DISH TV and 1.71 million Sling TV users), wireless subscribers dropped about 118,000 to 7.38 million, and broadband subscribers slipped 59,000 to 622,000. Operating income before depreciation, amortisation and other items (OIBDA) more than doubled to $683.48 million, while capital expenditures collapsed to $92.30 million from $746.90 million a year earlier.
