Eco Motors UNI to represent Peru in Shell Eco-marathon Brasil 2026

The Eco Motors UNI team, composed of students from the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI), will represent Peru for the third consecutive year at the Shell Eco-marathon Brasil 2026. The competition is scheduled to take place from August 24 to 27 in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together over 45 teams and 500 students from various countries.

The team’s prototype, the Hualkana III, is an electric vehicle designed for extreme energy efficiency. Key technical improvements include a carbon fiber structure, a redesigned electrical and control system, and an optimized aerodynamic design. The vehicle utilizes a Hub BLDC motor with efficiency exceeding 80%. According to the team, the prototype is capable of traveling approximately 200 kilometers on a very minimal amount of energy.

As the team prepares for the international event, they are currently seeking financial support from companies and alumni to cover travel and logistics costs. Diana Fernández, a mechanical engineering student, will serve as the driver for the Hualkana III, having undergone specific training to manage the vehicle's reclined driving position and high speeds.
