Ecobici expands in Mexico City with new rates and advertising

The Ecobici public bicycle system in Mexico City is undergoing a significant expansion and contract renewal. The project includes increasing the fleet from 9,300 to 15,000 bicycles and extending service to three new boroughs.

As part of the new concession, the system will incorporate 4,022 advertising spaces, including 600 electronic screens. This expansion has drawn criticism from organizations such as the Fundación por el Rescate y Recuperación del Paisaje Urbano (FRRPU), which expressed concerns regarding visual pollution and the saturation of the city's urban landscape.

Additionally, a new preferential annual rate of 588 pesos has been introduced for specific groups. This discounted rate is available to students, seniors over 60, and permanent residents of Mexico City. To access this rate, residents must provide proof of address and documentation at an Ecobici customer service center.
