EcoJoule exports EcoVAR low‑voltage grid technology to Portugal
Australian manufacturer EcoJoule Energy has shipped its EcoVAR low‑voltage distribution STATCOM to Portugal, marking the company’s first export to Europe and opening a new market for the technology. The 40 kVAR three‑phase units were built at EcoJoule’s Brisbane plant and dispatched this month, extending EcoVAR’s presence to four continents – Oceania, Asia, the Middle East and now Europe.
The export follows a A$15 million capital raise completed in 2025 and a A$3 million investment from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) through its Powering Australia Technology Fund. CEFC Head of Growth Capital Malcolm Thornton said the funding helps a market‑leading Australian technology scale up and integrate more renewable energy abroad. Founder Dr Mike Wishart explained the EcoVAR was created to correct voltage issues caused by rising rooftop solar without interrupting supply, while CCO Martin van der Linde said the goal is to make the solution readily available to networks worldwide.
