EcoLog partners to transport and store CO2 in the North Sea
EcoLog, a company owned by Peter Livanos, has entered into a strategic partnership with Harbour Energy and Stella Maris CCS to develop an integrated carbon dioxide (CO2) transport and permanent storage chain. The project aims to connect the EcoLog Terminal Amsterdam to the Havstjerne offshore project located on the Norwegian continental shelf, approximately 135 kilometers southwest of Stavanger.
The planned infrastructure will allow industrial facilities to capture CO2 and deliver it to a specialized maritime chain. The CO2 will be collected at terminals, liquefied, and transported via specially designed vessels to offshore facilities, where it will be injected into deep geological formations for permanent storage.
The EcoLog Terminal Amsterdam is being designed as a dual-use facility to handle both liquid hydrogen imports and liquefied CO2 exports. Scheduled for completion in 2030, the terminal's first phase aims for an annual capacity of 1.8 million tons of CO2 and 200,000 tons of hydrogen. Future expansions target capacities of 5.4 million tons of CO2 and 600,000 tons of hydrogen. To improve economic competitiveness, the terminal will utilize cooling energy released during hydrogen regasification to facilitate CO2 liquefaction.
