Ecologistas en Acción says Spain's Mina Muga court ruling remains incomplete

The Madrid High Court (Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Madrid) issued Sentence 371/2026 on 18 June 2026, confirming the Fronterizo mining concession granted on 1 July 2021 and rejecting the administrative appeal filed by Ecologistas en Acción and allied groups. The judgment left 15 of the 17 nullity arguments raised by the environmental organisations unanswered.

Ecologistas en Acción, together with the Fundación Sustrai Erakuntza and other anti‑mining platforms, filed a request for a complementary decision, arguing that the ruling does not analyse each nullity ground individually and therefore is not final. They also contest a press release by the mining company Geoalcali that presented the decision as definitive, stating that the court’s omissions on issues such as environmental protection, planning, public participation and EU law remain unresolved.
