Marine Tondelier calls for left-wing unity at Green party summer meetings

During the summer meetings of the Green party (Les Écologistes) held in Grenoble, national secretary Marine Tondelier called for a collective surge among left-wing parties to prepare for the 2027 presidential election. Tondelier emphasized the need for a unifying dynamic to defeat the far right, though she maintained her intention to run her own candidacy.

The party faces significant internal divisions regarding strategic alliances. While Tondelier seeks a broad coalition, members are split between supporting Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s La France Insoumise, joining a social-democratic bloc around Raphaël Glucksmann, or maintaining an autonomous ecological path.

Senator Yannick Jadot has explicitly rejected an alliance with Mélenchon, citing a “confusion of values” and arguing that his vision of ecology is fundamentally incompatible with the current direction of La France Insoumise. The party's summer gathering highlighted these ideological fractures as they navigate the upcoming political cycle.
