Alghero plastic waste crisis: Forza Italia opposes Palacongressi storage

Forza Italia councilors in Alghero are contesting the decision to use the Palacongressi di Maria Pia for temporary plastic waste storage. The group argues that the local administration and the Region were aware of the plastic supply chain crisis for months and that piling waste in a central tourist area is a mistake for the environment, tourism, and urban decorum.

As alternatives, the councilors suggested evaluating unused industrial areas in San Marco and Ungias-Galanté, or utilizing the posidonia treatment plant platform. They also proposed considering the temporary requisition of suitable private or public areas and investing approximately 200,000 to 300,000 euros in a plastic densification plant. Such a facility would use mechanical-thermal treatment to reduce plastic volume by up to 87.5%, facilitating easier storage and transport.
