EcoNomad Solutions raises £400k for farm waste-to-energy technology

EcoNomad Solutions, a Harpenden-based agtech startup, has secured £400,000 in funding to provide waste-to-energy technology to small livestock farms. The funding includes £230,000 from the British Design Fund, an Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant, and support from existing investor Beeches Group.

The company has developed the BioNomad, a patented, scaled-down anaerobic digestion system. Unlike industrial-scale biogas infrastructure, this system is designed for smaller agricultural holdings to capture methane emissions and convert organic waste into biogas for heating, cooking, and electricity. It also produces a chemical-free liquid biofertiliser.

According to the company, a typical holding of 50 cows can save several thousand pounds annually on energy and synthetic fertiliser inputs. The technology has already been installed on more than 10 UK farms and several sites in Africa. Founder Dr. Ilan Adler noted that the system aims to make renewable energy solutions accessible and affordable for small farms that are often excluded from larger-scale industrial options.
