Economic and digital factors impact Gen Z dating habits

Recent studies highlight how economic and digital factors are reshaping modern dating and social connections. In the United States, a survey conducted by the brand Julie in partnership with the Kinsey Institute among 2,400 individuals aged 18 to 29 found that financial concerns are a primary obstacle to romantic relationships. The costs associated with socializing and dating significantly influence whether Gen Z members seek new connections, with those aged 25 to 29 feeling the most financial impact.

In Brazil, research by the app happn involving 1,235 users examined the emotional toll of digital dating. The study found that while 53% of singles maintain emotional balance, 28.5% report anxiety or emotional exhaustion. A significant 75% of respondents have experienced ‘ghosting’—the sudden cessation of contact without explanation. While some view the practice with indifference, others report feelings of rejection, guilt, and increased difficulty trusting future romantic interests.
