Economic concerns impact 40% of Norwegian parents

A new survey conducted by YouGov for If reveals that four out of ten Norwegian parents report that economic concerns are negatively impacting their family's quality of life. The pressure is most acute among parents in their 30s, with 45 percent of this age group stating that finances affect the family, compared to 40 percent of the general parent population.

Key concerns include rising housing costs, which 39 percent of parents worry about. Experts note that persistent anxiety regarding bills, interest rates, and living expenses can create stress that affects overall family wellbeing. Additionally, 46 percent of parents expressed concern regarding the impact of social media on their children's mental health and social lives.

Complementing these findings, discussions regarding the transition of financial responsibility when children turn 18 highlight potential vulnerabilities. While Norwegian law maintains a duty of support for children in secondary education or apprenticeships, the loss of child benefits can create significant hardship. This is particularly true for single parents on disability benefits, who may face a sudden drop in income just as their children reach adulthood and continue to reside at home.
