Economic growth reported in Romania and Hungary
Economic data from Romania and Hungary show varying trends for the first half of 2026. In Romania, wholesale trade grew by 0.8 percent in raw data terms compared to the same period in 2025. This growth was driven by specialized wholesale sectors, including other specialized trade (11.6 percent), non-food consumer goods (6.8 percent), and IT/telecommunications equipment (6.5 percent). Conversely, non-specialized wholesale trade saw a decline of 13.4 percent.
In Hungary, the gross domestic product (GDP) volume increased by 1.7 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the previous year. This growth was supported by a 3.7 percent rise in industrial performance, particularly in the manufacturing of computers, electronics, and optical products. However, the agricultural sector experienced a significant decline, with added value falling 12.4 percent due to severe drought conditions. The services sector also saw growth, led by financial and insurance activities, which rose by 6.0 percent.
