Economic indicators show slowdown in Mexico and Colombia

Economic data from Mexico and Colombia indicate periods of weakness and deceleration. In Mexico, analysts from Barclays suggest that consumer consumption is heading toward a slow recovery that may not fully materialize until 2027. While the third quarter showed some stabilization compared to the weakness seen in April and May, retail sales and consumer confidence remain under pressure. Specifically, the consumer confidence index fell to 45.1 points in September, and ANTAD same-store sales growth rates have remained below the general inflation rate.

In Colombia, the Economic Monitoring Index (ISE) reported a slight annual decline of 0.04% in August 2026, reaching 127.27 points. When adjusted for seasonal effects, the index showed a 0.11% decrease. Monthly data revealed a 3.11% drop compared to July. While the year-to-date growth remains positive at 2.27%, this represents a deceleration from the 2.62% growth recorded during the same period last year. The primary sector, including agriculture and mining, saw the most significant contraction in seasonally adjusted terms.
