Economic insecurity linked to conservative views among young Nordic men

A new report commissioned by the Nordic Council reveals a correlation between economic insecurity and shifting social attitudes among young men in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.

Research conducted by Equimundo indicates that men experiencing financial instability are more likely to support conservative views regarding masculinity, leadership, family roles, and sexuality. Among men aged 18 to 24, one in three expressed skepticism toward gender equality, questioning whether men and women should be treated equally.

The study highlights that economic uncertainty serves as a decisive factor affecting mental health, relationships, and trust in society. Additionally, more than half of the men surveyed reported exposure to misogynistic content on social media within the past month. Researchers suggest that those who feel economically secure are less likely to hold conservative views or protest against gender-related issues such as sexual harassment and hate speech.
