Colombia economic activity declines in August 2026

Colombia's economic activity saw a slight contraction in August 2026, with the Economic Monitoring Indicator (ISE) falling 0.04% compared to the same month in 2025, according to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE). On a monthly basis, the indicator recorded a 3.1% contraction.

The decline was driven by significant downturns in primary activities, such as agriculture and mining, which fell by 3.2%, and secondary activities, including manufacturing and construction, which dropped by 3%. While public spending in sectors like health, education, and defense grew by 2.2%, it was insufficient to offset the losses in the productive sectors.

Despite the August contraction, the cumulative growth for the first eight months of 2026 remains positive at 2.27%, though this represents a deceleration from the 2.62% growth recorded during the same period in 2025.
