Fuel price surges drive inflation across Central Europe and the US

Rising fuel costs are driving inflation across Central Europe and the United States. In the Czech Republic, September inflation accelerated to 2.5% year-on-year, exceeding the Czech National Bank's forecasts. This surge is largely attributed to a 37.5% increase in fuel prices, influenced by Middle East conflicts and higher refining costs. Core inflation also rose to 3.1% due to increasing costs in services and electronics.

In Slovakia, fuel prices have seen significant increases, with diesel rising by over 30% in three months. Meanwhile, in the United States, September inflation data surprised markets with a higher-than-expected reading, causing bond yields to rise and the dollar to strengthen.

Other regional economic developments include the Czech online supermarket Košík.cz reporting a deepened annual loss of 878 million CZK despite a 16% revenue increase, and the wholesale company Orion Litomyšl seeing a drop in profits to 102 million CZK due to rising operating costs. In the industrial sector, CS-Beton is expanding production and hiring new staff in the Czech Republic.
