Economic strain hits households in Mendoza and Córdoba
Recent surveys in the Argentine provinces of Mendoza and Córdoba reveal significant economic strain on households, with a majority of residents reporting that their income is exhausted before the end of the month.
In Mendoza, a study by Zentrix Consultora found that 65.4% of families run out of funds before the 20th day of the month. Approximately 62.2% of residents reported taking on debt in the last six months, with 44.3% using credit to cover basic necessities such as food and healthcare. Additionally, 59.2% of those surveyed expressed distrust in official inflation figures.
Similarly, research from the UNC Social and Cultural Observatory in Córdoba indicates that 70% of residents have taken out at least one loan in the last two years. Half of those who use credit do so to purchase food and groceries. The report highlights a trend of “financial juggling,” where individuals combine multiple jobs or irregular income streams to manage expenses, often resulting in delayed payments for taxes and services.
