Economic trends show high food costs in Asturias and lower public debt in Navarra

Recent economic reports highlight contrasting financial trends in the Spanish regions of Asturias and Navarra.

In Asturias, food expenditure per capita has reached €1,973.8 in 2025, making it the fifth highest in Spain. Despite this high cost, the actual volume of food consumed (576.6 kg/liters per person) remains slightly below the national average. This discrepancy is attributed to high food inflation, with Asturias seeing a 4.1% year-on-year increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages, significantly higher than Spain's 2.8% average. The region's smaller household sizes also contribute to higher per capita spending.

Meanwhile, Navarra has seen a reduction in public debt. The public sector debt for the Chartered Community and its public companies stands at €2,639.7 million, representing €3,860 per inhabitant. This is a decrease from the previous year, when the debt per capita exceeded €4,000. Navarra currently maintains the second-lowest per capita public debt in Spain, following Canarias.
