Economist José Carlos Díez discusses global economic shifts

In his book ‘El fin del mundo tal y como lo conocíamos’, economist José Carlos Díez analyzes current global uncertainties. He argues that Europe faces significant disadvantages due to regulatory burdens, noting that gas emission penalties in Europe are eight times higher than in China.

Díez highlights that while China is the world’s leading manufacturer, the individual carbon footprint in the United States remains higher. He also points to China’s aggressive industrial policy and extensive subsidies as a contrast to Europe’s regulatory hurdles.

Regarding Spain, Díez suggests that economic progress requires investments in key infrastructure, industrial land, affordable housing, and high-voltage electricity, alongside reducing bureaucracy.
