Econt raises tariffs and curtails rural deliveries in Bulgaria

Bulgarian courier Econt announced a price increase that will take effect on 1 August 2026, the first adjustment in more than a year. Document shipments will rise about 6 %, most parcel services 8‑9 % and bulk or irregular cargo up to 11 %. The company also said that from 3 August it will stop home deliveries to dozens of villages and small towns, redirecting parcels to the nearest offices and Econtomats.

Founder Nikolay Sabev revealed that construction has begun on a new logistics centre near Veliko Tarnovo, expected to become operational in eight months. In parallel, Econt has applied to terminate its universal postal licence as of 20 July 2026, after which Bulgarian Post will assume responsibility for letters and small untracked parcels. The tariff hike is attributed to higher labour costs, a shortage of qualified drivers, a new state CO₂ tax on heavy‑duty vehicles and high inflation, while the firm is investing in expanding capacity and modernising its vehicle fleet.
