Ecoprogetti CEO suggests medium-scale solar manufacturing for Europe

Global solar supply chains are undergoing a transformation driven by industrial policies and increasing protectionism. Laura Sartore, CEO of the Italian machinery company Ecoprogetti, suggests that while the United States and India are focused on building large-scale domestic supply chains, Europe may benefit from a different strategy.

Sartore proposes a network of medium-sized manufacturers in Europe, with ideal factory capacities ranging from 1 GW to 3 GW. This approach aims to balance financial viability with production flexibility.

In other markets, Sartore notes that most primary supply chains, excluding China, are shifting toward protectionism and price floors. In the United States, the introduction of minimum price thresholds has not slowed demand, as the sector continues to grow alongside the development of a domestic supply chain. Meanwhile, in China, prices are gradually rising due to government efforts to curb overcapacity.
